Zero Net Energy Modern House

In response to the CA Energy Efficiency Strategic Plan's "Zero Net Energy" (ZNE) by 2030, we've been developing alternative design solutions that will incorporate solar panels in the building design. This modern house features a modest 2,600 SF flowing plan with 4 bedrooms and 3 baths and an open carport with solar panel roofs supported by steel frames. The idea is nothing new as seen in many parking lots with solar panel arrays except in this house we turned them into a dual-purpose architectural element. that also complements the overall design of the house. The panels can be laid out flat or with a minimal tilt to maximize energy production. To help achieve Zero Net Energy the house will have advanced systems like efficient HVAC units; increased insulation; high-performance windows; and LED lighting.
